Protecting Your Pallets in the Winter
Written by TC Pallet
Winter brings a few hazards that are easy to overlook when it comes to pallet care. A little preparation goes a long way toward avoiding damaged inventory and unsafe stacks.
Frost
Frost can cause stacked pallets to freeze together. Pulling them apart afterward often splits boards and damages stringers.
Snow and Ice
Heavy snow loads warp boards and add weight that creates tipping risks. Once snow melts and refreezes, retrieving pallets safely becomes a real challenge.
Prevention
- Move pallets indoors before temperatures drop below freezing.
- Keep stacks under cover when indoor space isn't available.
- Avoid storing pallets directly on the ground in wet conditions.
- Schedule more frequent pickups during heavy snow weeks.
