5 Types of Pallets, Explained
Written by TC Pallet
From a distance, pallets all look similar. Up close, no two are alike. They're built from a range of materials — recycled wood, plywood, plastic — and configured for different jobs. Here are five common types you'll come across.
1. Block Pallets
Block pallets allow four-way forklift entry. Cylindrical wooden posts stabilize the top deck, and the design works with or without a bottom deck depending on the application.
2. Stringer Pallets
Stringer pallets use parallel boards (stringers) between the top and bottom decks. Two-way stringers allow entry on two sides; four-way notched stringers allow forklift entry on all four sides.
3. Double-Face Pallets
Double-face pallets have deck boards on both top and bottom for added strength and even weight distribution.
4. Solid Deck Pallets
Solid deck pallets have no gaps between top boards, which makes them ideal for shipping small items or bagged goods.
5. Custom Pallets
Built to spec for specialty freight — oversized loads, heavy machinery, odd-shaped products. TCP designs and builds custom pallets for industries across Ohio.
